tutorial tuesday

It's Tuesday. I am sitting on my Rocky Mountain porch with coffee and Of Monsters and Men tuning my morning (afternoon?). And I've decided its a fitting day for a tutorial.

Tutorial Tuesday... get it?

One of the crafts I do often in making felted flowers as hair accessories and pins. There are many tutorials out there for these and some of them are really good. Either way, I thought I would share my own. So here goes:

For felted or fabric flowers I really enjoy reclaiming material, using something old and making it into something new and fun. And maybe it helps out the environment too, right? Reusing material. This wool felt comes from an old blanket of my Papa's.
The size of the circle depends on how big you want your flower. The bigger the circle, the bigger the flower.
This is where it can get a little tricky. The more spread out you cut the spiral, the taller your flower will stick out from the base. I prefer a shorter height, so I cut mine more closely together.

When you are finished, glue on some felt (or fabric) on the back along with whatever accessory item you like: a pin, clip or headband. (See below)

When you are finished, it may look a little something like this:

If you like this tutorial, but don't feel like making these on your own you can always buy from my etsy shop that is back in swing (and renamed) this summer! My friend Kirstin and I joined forces and just got it up and running. Check it out here.
